Making the leap from street photographer to wedding photographer might seem like a weird career arc for some people. Aren’t street photographers grizzled old photojournalists who just want to capture real life through the barrel of their lenses that look down on wedding photography for its posed and predictable nature? Maybe some are, but not me. I see the amazing similarities between the two genres and use one to strengthen the other.
Sometimes the coolest wedding venues are hidden right under your nose. For me, that was certainly the case with La Scala Ristorante.
The elevated Italian restaurant is just a few blocks from my home in Midtown Savannah. While I was aware of the restaurant, and it was on my list of places to try, I had no idea about their amazing event hosting capabilities.
When you think weddings in Savannah, it’s easy to get caught up focusing on the Historic and Midtown districts. There is no denying the old world beauty, architecture and amenities of these areas.
With all of this inner-city beauty it’s easy to forget that Savannah is surrounded by some of the most amazing farmland, forests, marshes and coast in the Southeastern United States.

We’ve all seen them - the cringe worthy wedding or engagement photography that our parents had done back in the 80’s with that “soft focus” or “foggy” effect that was supposed to smooth out skin and make everyone look angelic… or something.
This is the perfect example of why you should always go “timeless, not trendy” with your wedding photography.
